Principal practices teaching tolerance

SARASOTA — Florida’s student population is becoming increasingly diverse.

Minority students make up more than half of the total enrollment in Florida schools. Southwest Florida districts teach students from dozens of different countries. In Manatee County alone, students speak more than 70 different languages.

Those statistics do not even begin to address religious and social differences.

As the school system becomes more diverse, educators are finding it is more important to teach students about tolerance.
